The Memory Project While working on this piece one problem I encountered was having to restart because of a change in one of the mediums I was using. My original plan for this piece was to draw the face then do the background either in acrylic paint or watercolor. I drew the grid then stated the face and realized I wanted to do a wash of different colors of watercolor but if I were to put watercolor over the grid I would not be able to erase it. So to solve my problem I had to switch to watercolor paper and begin with my watercolor background. I think that my watercolor skills have improved over the course of this project because it was a medium that I wasn't very confident in using but now I feel like I will be more confident in using watercolor in more pieces that I work on. I believe that one area of improvement for me is blending prisma colors, simmer to the watercolor I fell more confident in using it but blending is a technique part of using prisma colors that is something I can improve on. Something that was satisfying for me about the finished product was how the piece turned out. Originally when this project was introduced I was nervous about how my piece would turn out. Looking at my finished project I am proud of how it turned out and it is satisfying to know that I was able to complete this project with a piece that makes me feel happy about my work. When other people look at my piece or anyone else piece, I think it is normal that they would point out some flaws or things they like, or what they would have done differently. For me, the one thing I would like people to notice when looking at my piece is how much effort and thought I put into it. I think that everyone who took part in this project put a tremendous amount of effort into there pieces and I think it is important for others to recognize that.

What does this piece represent? 2) How did you construct it? 3) What maps did you incorporate? 4) Is it meant to be abstract or representational? 5) How is this map personally meaningful to you? This piece represents a map of Canada, it is based of an art piece done by Piet Mondriont I have lived in Canada all my life so this map is something that means something to me, especially that I was able to make it my own. My original intentions for this art peer ice was to stitch lines to all the places I have been to in Canada. I constructed this by first drawing the map on the paper, then drawing a grid overtop, after that I added more lines to the grid to make it my own. Next I painted certain rectangles changing colours for different spaces. After that, I went over the grid using a marker, and traced the map with a marker. Finally I used a marker to fill in the open spaces inside the map. This piece is meant to be leaning more towards the abstract side. My intentions were that someone was not immediately able to identify that it is a map, but that they could evenly see the map. Writing Prompt #2: PIVOTAL PEOPLE
Who in your life has influenced you strongly? This may be in a positive or negative way. Think and write about those people who have had a significant impact in your life and may have been responsible for the direction of your life path. Think about how old you were, how these people affected you, the obstacles that you faced and the way your life has changed. Recognize those that have had a profound effect on you. Who were they? What did they say to you? What do they represent? In my life my older sister has influenced me strongly. When I was ten and living in Toronto, my sister and I new about an elementary school with intercity kids. Most who would come to school everyday without breakfast, and very little lunch. We resized how lucky we were to live in a nice neighbourhood, with a lot of great opportunities. We raised money and organized a trip to take a grade 1 class from the school to the zoo. We payed for their bus ride and made lunches for them and took them to the Zoo. This was a real eyeopening experience and if it wasn't for my sister I wouldn't be so grateful for everything I have In life. Writing Prompt #3: ROADS TAKEN and NOT TAKEN What have been the important decisions in your life? We have all grown, evolved and changed. At times the movement of our lives has changed direction because of the choices we have made, and at other times it has changed because of the choices that others have made. … They are the roads that we have taken and the roads that we have not taken. What have been your stepping stones? What have been the significant moments of change and growth in your life? What have these shifts meant for you and the direction of your life? What have been the opportunities you have pursued – the roads taken? What have been your missed opportunities – the roads not taken? One decision I have made in my life was deciding to move to Vancouver. I believe that this big decision has made me more independent and willing to take more chances. I have also been able to meet lots of new people and make a lot of new friends. One of the missed opportunities I'm my life was deciding to not move. If I had chosen to not move than I would probably be a different person than I am now because I would be exposed to different people and a different environment. Writing Prompt #1: I AM Who are you? This seems like a very easy and straight-forward questions, but when was the last time you really tried to articulate an answer? Take some time to ponder and write about all the aspects of your “self.” Think about where you come from, who your family is, and what is most important to you. Use adjectives to describe yourself, or describe all of the roles you play or have played in your life. Think about the stories that you build about yourself – the mythology you have constructed. My name is Olivia, I am 13 years old and I am in grade 8 at Collingwood school. I live in Vancouver BC. I am the youngest in my family with one older sister who is in grade 9. I was born in Toronto and moved to Vancouver in 2014. I am athletic and enjoy playing different sports. I am also helpful and like to support charities and people.
I chose a ski boot to do for my still life. I am drawing this object because I really loves sports and especially skiing.
My inspiration was a pice of artwork that I found on google images, it was a violin that was cut into pieces and shifted around to almost make the painting abstract, and some parts of the violin were filled in with music notes. I really liked the fact that this pice of art was different from what most people were doing, and also that it wasn't just simple many things were incorporated into it to make it interesting and appealing. I wanted to incorporate this style while creating my ski boot. I haven't chosen a medium yet for my still life project, because first I want to sketch my ski boot out and than move some of the pieces around and add newsprint to certain parts of the sketch, after that I was going to see what medium would be the right fit for my still life project. For my still life I am going to do a side profile of my ski boot and it will be a portrait not a landscape. I am only going to do one angle. It will not be realistic because I will be moving some of the pieces from my initial sketch around on the paper. I was also thinking of using the same colours of my actual ski boot. |
